This is the place for reviews I've written on starship miniatures and other items suitable for GZG's Full Thrust.
Quantum Miniatures' 1/300 Starfighters
There's a bit of a story behind this review... Quantum Miniatures is a new, small UK company that I found while websurfing, liked the look of, and added a link to on my Commercial Links page. It appears mine was the first unsolicited link to Quantum, ever, and the owner was nice enough to send me 'a few samples' of minis I'd admired, in gratitude for the link!

Quantum's idea of 'a few samples' was a very generous one indeed - I got two of the larger 'Cerulean' Heavy Fighter, and four of the smaller 'Cobalt' Fighter. These are both cast in a very hard pewter alloy, very crisp and clean with minimal flash and mold-lines. Detail is minimal but crisp, and I like the overall designs. Very good quality, overall.
The scan: Far left is a Canadian quarter, for size comparision. Middle left top is the top surface of a Cerulean, middle left bottom is the underside of the same ship. On the right hand side, top, is the top of a Cobalt fighter, bottom is the underside of the Cobalt.
Now, I don't actually play any spacefighter games, but I do play Full Thrust, so these figures are going to be reborn as starships of some sort. I'm going to shave off the fighter's canopy frames, then use the smaller Cobalts pretty much as is - they're probably Light or Medium Cruisers. The two larger Ceruleans I have more advanced plans for - I'm probably going to use them both, mount them vertically with an extra body built up between the ships and run the resulting larger vessel as a Battleship, probably. I'll post pictures or scans here when I'm finished.
Giles (who runs Quantum) seems like a great guy - certainly very generous to someone who happened to link to his site!
UPDATE, Sept. 2003: The Quantum website appears to be gone, but you can get
