   Orbiter Mars Addons

"To confine our attention to terrestrial matters would be to limit the human spirit.|" — Stephen Hawking
New additions to Olympus Base, Mars I've always been fascinated by Mars; messing around in Orbiter has just given me an even cooler outlet for my interest in the Red Planet!

These were first created as a greyscale bitmap (.bmp format) in Adobe Photoshop (the Smudge/Blend tool can be used to give great erosion effects!). That bmp was used as a height map in TerraGen, which was exported as a Lightwave mesh (.lwo format). I imported the mesh into Anim8or, cut a lot of it away, and was left (for now) with a pair of crater meshes. These got saved as Anim8or-format .an8 files, then exported as .3ds files to Vinka's 3ds2msh utility, which finally gave me the .msh files I needed for Orbiter scenery!

After all that it was a simple matter to add some entries to the default Olympus Base config file...

Download OlympusAddon from Avsim's Library. Changed! - note that Avsim's new Library policy means that you have to be logged in before you can access files there. Registration is free and simple, though, and well worth it.
