
I've always been fascinated by Mars; messing around in Orbiter has just given me an even cooler outlet for my interest in the Red Planet!
These were first created as a greyscale bitmap (.bmp format) in Adobe Photoshop (the Smudge/Blend tool can be used to give great erosion effects!). That bmp was used as a height map in
TerraGen, which was exported as a Lightwave mesh (.lwo format). I imported the mesh into
Anim8or, cut a lot of it away, and was left (for now) with a pair of crater meshes. These got saved as Anim8or-format .an8 files, then exported as .3ds files to
Vinka's 3ds2msh utility, which finally gave me the .msh files I needed for Orbiter scenery!
After all that it was a simple matter to add some entries to the default Olympus Base config file...
